The Joy of Pets…

Here at Shropshire Tropicalia I like to paint things that bring joy, the things that mean the most to us in our everyday lives. For a lot of us, that includes our fabulous furry (or otherwise) friends. Now a lot of people think I’m an exclusive cat-person, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I TOTALLY ADORE their dumb dopeyness, slinky aloofness and ability to self-clean Peter The Speaker do you agree?

But mine is a broad church when it comes to animals and I have been known to paint any creature that the owners love and cherish and give it my signature tropical colour, vibrant energy and lavish style. Dogs, cats, tortoises, chinchillas- you name it I would relish the challenge.

Recently, I had a commission for a pair of pigeons called August & Candi, who the owner had found injured, been told they were beyond saving by a vet, and nursed back to health. These two were an absolute joy to paint, with iridescent plumage and their own unique characteristics against a lush, verdant green and pink background.
