It’s hashtag#worldmentalhealthday - and it cannot come as too much of a surprise that making art and being creative is fundamental to safeguarding yours.

According to an article in The Guardian on ‘arts & minds’ an evaluation into participants of weekly arts workshops revealed a 71% decrease in feelings of anxiety and a 73% fall in depression; 76% of participants said their wellbeing increased and 69% felt more socially included. As one participant says: “I feel so much better having had the time and space to do some art. It makes such a difference.”

For me doing a ‘drawing a day’ is essential for my skills and my soul. When I paint, I get lost in the process and hours go by, not least because I like to have some banging tunes on and dance around at the same time!
My Shropshire Tropicalia art is all about finding joy in everyday life bringing joy to your home.

I’m also very proud of my local ‘art-on-plate’ weekly sessions and day courses at The Trinity Centre, Meole Brace, Shrewsbury. It’s been a great opportunity to help my local community by providing a social space for them to engage in positive and energetic making of art, develop their skills, meet like-minded people and make time for themselves in busy weeks.

How has art helped you?
