I Think A CHANGE (A CHANGE) Would do you good!
I think a CHANGE would do you good….

The number of hair styles and colours I’ve sported over the years is frankly bewildering. My Doctor Who style regeneration has kept my colleagues, students, family and friends in a constant state of alarm…
Women go through life having to wear a lot of hats. I’ve been a lot of things to a lot of people over the years: a poet’s daughter, a little sister, a girlfriend, an art student, a travel companion, an English language teacher, a trainee teacher, an art teacher, a wife, a teaching mentor, a personal tutor, a resource creator, a head of department, a new mum, a working mum, a ‘career woman’, a mum of two under two, a ‘have-it-all-woman’, a manager, an events organiser, a curator, an outreach coordinator, a social media wrangler…, it’s exhausting, stressful and anxiety-inducing.
Fully into my ‘feral forties’ now, and my aging body is forcing me to embrace the change and focus on what brings peace to me and those around me. So now I’m doing what I always intended to do as a kid- If anyone had asked me aged 4 what I wanted to be, I would have said ‘I’m going to be an artist’.
*Deep breath*
Like many, I rediscovered painting and making during lockdown then in holidays and free time, but this year I made it official- I set up my website, opened my online shop, and started my Shropshire Tropicalia business running my ‘art-on-a-plate’ workshops and I’ve gone full-time 100% artist, entrepreneur and businesswoman.
It’s the start of a new journey for me, and it’s as simultaneously terrifying as it is exhilarating, but I think life is short and we’re here for a good time not for a long time - that’s what my work is about really …. so here goes. People who have seen me recently have said, ‘ooh you look well’ and I think that change, while scary is definitely rejuvenating.
It’s not all gonna be plain sailing, and there are already plenty of challenges and problems to be solved; being patient with myself is definitely something I need to work on.
If you’re approaching or going through a big change, a time of turbulence and transition, then brace yourself, buckle up and go for it- enjoy the wild ride.
